Huw Reynolds

Huw is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, where he trained as a Tenor under Tony Roden.



He began his singing career as a chorister at Lincoln Cathedral, going on to join the Chapel Choir of King Edwards School, Witley and the school’s Bridewell Opera company. Taking lead roles in productions of The Mikado, Iolanthe and excerpts of Le Nozze Di Figaro, Huw held his own beside the professional singers supporting the cast.



Whilst still at school, Huw was awarded a place in the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, performing in numerous concerts and two world tours in 1996 and 1999. During his tenure with NYCGB, Huw was selected to represent the United Kingdom in the Council of Europe International Choir at the 1996 European Educational Summit in Kristiansand, Norway. At home in Surrey, Huw became involved in various amateur dramatic and operatic societies, including taking the role of Billy Flynn in Chicago.



In 1998, Huw won a place at the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music and began a Bachelor of Arts degree. He appeared in many of the college’s productions, including Janácek’s Jenufa, Andreissen’s Die Marterie, The Steward in Sondheim’s Into the Woods, 1st Slave in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (which included the world premiere of Die Zauberflöte arranged for Brass Ensemble) and Ben in Menotti’s The Telephone.



On his graduation in 2003, he joined Carl Rosa Opera’s UK national tour, taking a speaking role in HMS Pinafore alongside Tom Baker. The tour took in many of the UK’s most renowned local theatres, generating rave reviews for its balance of tradition with contemporary wit.



Huw auditioned for the chorus of Den Norske Opera & Ballett (Norwegian National Opera) in 2004, joining them in the autumn of that year. He was invited to become a permanent member of the chorus in 2005.



Happily settled in Oslo, Huw continues to accept invitations to perform throughout Scandinavia and the UK. Recent performances include Haroun in Bizet’s Djamileh, with Opera South (UK) and several concerts for the sponsors of Den Norske Opera & Ballett..



A long standing interest in stage fight choreography led Huw to assist the Fight Choreographer on the Den Norske Opera & Ballett 2008 production of Don Carlo as fight captain and as swing during performances. He since studied with the Nordic Stage fight Association and the British Academy of Stage & Screen Combat, gaining his qualifications in Rapier & Dagger and Unarmed Combat.



Huw continues to study Shito-Ryu Karate and historical European martial arts, building on his previous experience of Japanese Ju-Jitsu, Brazilian Capoeira and competitive fencing. He has also has education in single sword, single rapier, broadsword, firearm handling and safety, SWAT Tactics, theatrical martial arts, high falls and body burns. Huw is a qualified PADI Rescue Diver, enjoys skiing, snowboarding and horse-riding. He also plays the trumpet, cornet and bugle.
